Synchro Macro-level analysis and optimization

• Synchro is a macroscopic analysis and optimization software that supports the Highway Capacity Management (HCM) 6th, 2010, and 2000 editions for signalized, unsignalized, and plaza intersections. Synchro also uses the Intersection Capacity Utilization method to determine intersection capacity. Synchro’s traffic light optimization feature allows users to prioritize specific phases, giving them more options for designing traffic light schedules. Because of its ease of use, traffic engineers can start modeling in just a few days, which is one of the main reasons why Synchro is a leader in traffic analysis.

SimTraffic Accurate and dynamic simulation

• SimTraffic is a powerful traffic simulation software. SimTraffic performs microscopic simulation and animation of vehicle and pedestrian traffic. With SimTraffic, individual vehicles moving on the street network are modeled and displayed. SimTraffic models signalized and unsignalized intersections, as well as freeway sections with cars, trucks, pedestrians, and buses. Unlike many other modeling software, SimTraffic animation is displayed simultaneously with the simulation. Data entry in this software is very intuitive and efficient; with a single mouse click, any dataset created with Synchro can be used to run simulations in SimTraffic.

3D Viewer Realistic visual experience

In the 3D Viewer, users can use models from the software library or add their own 3D models (.3ds) to personalize the scene. This tool provides the closest experience to reality without the need to be physically present in the middle of an intersection.

Warrants

• Warrants is a product that enables traffic professionals to determine whether an intersection needs traffic lights. Warrants can evaluate an entire network of intersections simultaneously and record multiple time periods of traffic volume for each intersection. Layout and traffic volume information can be easily imported from Synchro for easy model setup.

TripGen (trip generation)

• Originally developed by Microtrans, TripGen is a simple and practical tool that calculates trip generation based on the Institution of Transportation Engineers’ Trip Generation Manual. The analyst can select the independent variable of interest and then calculate the inbound and outbound volumes of the roadways using the rates or equations in the Trip Generation Manual. Pass-by trips and internal capture trips for mixed-use developments (NCHRP 684) can also be calculated. The software allows users to enter custom trip rates based on local or regional studies. Several reports are also available for users to quickly review the calculations. Future versions of the software will integrate with Synchro, significantly reducing the time required to analyze traffic impacts.

SimTraffic CID (SimTraffic Controller Interface Device)

• The SimTraffic Controller Interface Device, or CID, is a connection between the SimTraffic Controller Interface software and a traffic light controller. This connection between software and hardware is known as real-time, hardware-in-the-loop simulation. This simulation allows the analyst to use the actual traffic light controller hardware to fine-tune the light schedule. CID hardware-in-the-loop simulation also allows the analyst to easily test the traffic light controller’s features in the office, rather than in the field.
