FEFLOW (Finite Element subsurface FLOW system) is a software product for hydrogeological modeling: groundwater movement, impurity and heat transport in the subsurface. FEFLOW enables the calculation of hydrogeological conditions, forecasting, and monitoring of:

Groundwater behavior in various areas, as well as during the construction of buildings and structures (tunnels);

Mine water;

Saline water infiltration into underground aquifers;

Dam and dam seepage;

Various land uses and possible climate change scenarios;

Groundwater reclamation and natural depletion;

Geothermal energy (deep and surface layers of both open and closed systems);

FEFLOW 11 is one of the largest updates in recent years. The focus is on geological modeling, 3D meshes, geothermal analysis, and Python automation.

Key New Features in FEFLOW 11

Integrated geological modeling. You can now create and edit geological models directly in FEFLOW using the new Structural Model Editor, eliminating the need for third-party geology software.

New Layered 3D Mesh Generator. A GEODE-based Layered Mesh Generator has been added, significantly simplifying the creation of models with continuous geological layers (2.5D geometry).

Pinch-out Management. New tools have been added: 3D Slice/Layer Configurator, Fuse-Delete, and Split-Layer. This makes it much easier to create models with complex stratigraphy, layer pinch-outs, and local changes in vertical discretization.

Geometric tools for Supermesh preparation. The new Geometric Tools suite allows you to correct geometry topology, remove minor artifacts, calculate object intersections, and clean imported surfaces and solids before meshing.

Geothermal model improvements. Added: Open-Loop System Editor, specialized geothermal graphs, and expanded thermal calculation reports.

New Well Manager. More convenient work with well groups: creating Well Groups, interactively assigning wells to groups, and centralized management of operating modes.

Python within the interface. One of the most useful new features for advanced users: a built-in Python editor; a Python console directly in the GUI; installing packages; formatting and running scripts without an external IDE. Furthermore, the API has been expanded with new interpolation and Supermesh functions.

Improved visualization. Cross Sections can now display wells, observation points, and boundary conditions. This greatly simplifies model analysis and the preparation of presentation materials.

Performance. The developers have optimized the computational core and the processing of constrained boundary conditions, so many models run faster than in FEFLOW 10.
