The Simulation Platform for Power Electronic Systems

PLECS tools can be applied to many disciplines of power electronics engineering. Conceived with a top-down approach in mind, PLECS facilitates the modeling and simulation of complete systems, including power sources, power converters, and loads.

Included with PLECS is a comprehensive component library, which covers the electrical, as well as the magnetic, thermal, and mechanical aspects of power conversion systems and their controls. Power electronics circuits are captured with a schematic editor in a way that is familiar and intuitive for electrical engineers. Typical power electronics components such as semiconductors, inductors and capacitors are placed on the circuit diagram and simply connected by drawing wires.

New Features
– The new FMU block enables you to include Model-Exchange Functional Mockup Units created by other simulation tools in your PLECS models.
PLECS Standalone Only
– PLECS has a new default variable-step solver auto that automatically switches from the non-stiff DOPRI solver to the stiff RADAU solver if a model is found to become stiff during a simulation.
– The new Model Reference block allows you to reuse a subsystem from one model in another model via a link so that the referencing subsystem is updated automatically when the original subsystem is changed.
– The new solver option OutputTimes enables you to specify the time values for which you wish to retrieve output signal values when running a simulation from an Octave script or via the XML-RPC interface.

Introduction to PLECS Standalone

This tutorial video provides an introduction to PLECS Standalone. The highlights of the video are using the schematic editor and component library, and modeling a simple DC/DC converter, first with an open-loop controller, and then close the loop with a hysteresis type controller. The resulting waveforms are then viewed in the PLECS Scope.
